News Week of September 4th

We did it!  Your first graders did a great job of putting first things first (that’s habit 3 that we learned about this week), and they made it to 15 minutes with their reading and writing stamina.  They enjoyed some popsicles as a result.  We began to learn about Read to Someone this week, and we will start practicing that next week.  We also did some Word Work with our first word sorts.  We will work on them some more next week, and then the sorts will come home and your first graders can show you what they learned.  Once a word sort comes home, its stays home.  J

In math we finished unit one and we will begin unit 2 on Monday.  On Tuesday we are looking at ways we use numbers, and they need to bring in their homework from Monday which is the Lesson 2-1 homework.

We also finished our geography unit by making maps of Antarctica and Africa, and Mrs. Freeman shared with us about her trip to Africa.  We will be doing a science unit on habitats next.

Please remember to send in the permission slip and money for the Colorado Wildlife Program that will be at our school.  These are due this Friday the 14th along with Scholastic book orders if you would like to order any.  The book orders went home in Friday folders last week.

Also remember that there will be no morning snack starting Monday the 10th and a short body break will replace the recess so we have more time for our literacy and writing.
