Thank you everyone who came to Back to School Night. If you were unable to come, I sent home with your child their math homework books and information from the night stapled to them. Math homework for next week is in Friday folders and on my blog.
In reading this week we are
continuing to build stamina, and we have found it to be harder. We are at 11 minutes. We added Work on Writing to our Daily Five so
now students can Read to Self or Work on Writing. In Writer’s Workshop we discussed the steps
in writing stories about ourselves:
think of an idea and picture it in your head, draw a picture, label the
picture, write some words, and ask your first grader the last thing they can
do. J I met with the students this week and checked
their book boxes for Good Fit Books. See
if your first grader can tell you about Good Fit Books. We also worked on sounds and some students worked
on sight words. Don’t forget to quiz
your first grader on the First 100 Sight Words that came home in the red folder
at the beginning of the year. These are
so important for reading success.
In math we have been working more
on the routines of Everyday Math and exploring some of the tools/materials will
be using this year. We will have our
unit 1 test next Friday. Counting by
ones, twos, and fives as well as finding numbers before and after and tally
marks will be on the test.
Finally in social studies we are
continuing our geography unit. We are
trying to remember what city, state, country and continent we live in! Your first grader also needs to know his/her
address for activities we are doing in class and in tech.
