We are continuing to work on comprehension strategies in
reading and alternating between fiction and nonfiction stories. The standards now say that elementary
students should read nonfiction stories 50% of the time. Find some good nonfiction you can read at
home with your child, too.
In math we have started Unit 6 and are doing many activities
and learning strategies to help us with our addition and subtraction facts.
We have begun studying the American Revolution in social
studies. See if your first grader can
tell you about the Boston Tea Party or Redcoats and Minutemen. They brought home lanterns this week after
learning about Paul Revere. Hopefully
they can tell you why a lantern is important to his story.
In writing we are finishing up our unit on writing for our
reader and will be publishing pieces next week.
We have many upcoming events!
