It is hard to believe that we have reached our 43rd
day of school. I look forward to meeting
with all of you at conferences next week and sharing with you your child’s
assessments from the beginning of the year and the work we have been doing over
these 43 days.
Our strategy groups are going well in reading. We are focusing on accuracy (reading the
words right), fluency (reading smoothly with expression) and
comprehension. Some of the groups are
beginning to do written responses to their reading.
In math we have been looking at patterns and counting on the
number grid. Being able to count forward
and backward on a number grid and number line are important skills in math this
year.
We have finished our Launching the Writer’s Workshop in
writing and are having a publishing party on Friday. The children chose a piece of writing to “fix
up and fancy up” or publish. Each child
will share his or her chosen piece, and we will have a little celebration just
like authors do when they publish a book!
Please don’t forget our field
trip to the Arvada Center this Thursday the 18th. The students must wear their uniforms and bring a disposable sack lunch. We will be gone from 8:45 to 2:00. If you are driving, you may sign your child
out at the Arvada Center and take them home if you wish.
Please remember Friday
the 19th is a no school day.
This is a comp day for the teachers after conferences, and there is no school on Monday the 22nd. This is a professional development day.
Finally
thank you to all of you who have donated candy for the Harvest Hop! This is our biggest event of the year and a
great fundraiser for the school. Your
candy donations are greatly appreciated and will help make the night a huge
success with our school family and friends who visit!
